Power BI Enablement and Reporting Training

Our client August Electronics is a Canadian electronics manufacturing services provider that supports OEMs through prototyping, production builds, assembly, testing, and ongoing lifecycle support. They operate primarily out of Calgary, Alberta and support customers whose products move through Canadian and broader North American supply chains.

They are a mid-sized organization (roughly 50–200 employees) with a mix of operations, quality, engineering, supply chain, and leadership roles that depend on timely, accurate reporting to manage production performance and business decisions. The organization is also part of a larger manufacturing group, which adds scale and complexity to how reporting and operational visibility need to work.

Profile Highlights

  • Industry: Electronics manufacturing services
  • Primary operations base: Alberta (Canada)
  • Typical size: Mid-sized ~50–200 employees
  • Core functions supported: Operations, engineering, quality, supply chain, leadership reporting

Problem

Reporting often starts as a spreadsheet task and slowly becomes a business dependency. Over time, that leads to common issues: people spend too much time cleaning data, different teams create different versions of the same report, and results become hard to trust because logic lives in individual files instead of a consistent model. When reporting becomes manual, it also becomes delayed. That means leadership sees the business late, and teams spend more time preparing updates than acting on them.

August Electronics needed a way to standardize how data is pulled, shaped, and presented so reports could be refreshed and shared reliably, with less effort and fewer errors.

Solution

West X delivered a focused Power BI training session designed to give the team practical skills they could immediately apply. The training was structured to cover the full lifecycle of a report: bringing in data, preparing it, structuring it properly, building visuals, and publishing it for sharing.

The session focused on repeatable habits that drive business value:

  • Reducing manual data preparation by using Power Query for consistent import and transformation.
  • Building a clean data model so reporting logic is consistent and reusable across dashboards.
  • Creating report pages that support decision-making with clear, well-structured visuals.
  • Publishing and sharing reports through the Power BI service so reporting is accessible and consistent across the organization.

Where helpful, the training was aligned to real reporting scenarios so the team could directly apply the skills to day-to-day operational reporting needs.

The Results

August Electronics gained a baseline internal capability to build and maintain Power BI reports. Staff learned how to reduce manual report prep, standardize reporting logic, and publish shareable dashboards that can be refreshed and reused. This created a foundation for more consistent reporting, faster turnaround on business questions, and less dependence on spreadsheet-heavy processes.
